What is Cherrybomb?

Published by CP Team

Yes we’re asking you to sign these petitions and show your support for the film, but WHY and WHAT is this film all about? What makes it any different than other indie productions which may also be struggling?

Background information:

Cherrybomb was filmed during the Summer of 2008 on location in Belfast - the city it is set in. It tells the story of two best friends, Luke (Robert Sheehan) and Malachy (Rupert Grint) whose bromance is threatened when a new girl comes into town and starts playing with the boys for their affection. Michelle (Kimberley Nixon) sets one outrageous and illegal challenge after another for Luke and Malachy until events become out of control with deadly consequences.

Cherrybomb has been praised by Belfast natives for its fresh approach to Northern Ireland cinema where films are usually centered around its turbulent history. Cherrybomb also won the Audience Award at the 2009 Belfast Film Festival.

Cherrybomb had its world premiere at the Berlin International Film Festival in April 2009 to three sold out screenings. It has since made the rounds to the Dublin International Film Festival and Belfast International Film Festival - all screenings also having been sold out, with an additional screening even being added at Belfast!

The film was also the recipient of this year’s Audience Award at the Belfast Film Festival.
